' A Taste of Lombardy'
with guest speaker & author Christine Smallwood
The northern Italian region of Lombardy is home to much more than Milan and the Lakes (Como, Maggiore, Garda and Iseo). It’s where you go for Italy’s best sparkling wine, risotto, bresaola and excellent cheeses including Gorgonzola, Grana Padano, Taleggio which all originate here, as does Campari. Filled pastas, polenta, lake fish and beef are staples.
It’s a land of varied landscape and agriculture: from the rice plains of the Po Valley via fields of corn and wheat to the hills of the Valtellina with their steep slopes covered in vineyards and pastures where cows and goats roam.
Our friend, Christine Smallwood, the author of An Appetite for Lombardy: the people, the places, the food will talk about these and many more regional specialities and may even be persuaded to spill the beans on taking Jane Baxter around some of her favourite Lombard restaurants.
As Christine talks about the food throughout the evening, Jane will be cooking dishes featured in the book giving you a chance to experience the produce and flavours from the region of Lombardy and Northern Italy. The evening will be multi-course dinner with lots of dishes and you certainly won't go home hungry.
